Today, we pulled Sophia out of school (I know. I know. I don’t want to hear it.) so that we could go to Citi Field for a Met game. It was POURING here this morning so we weren’t sure it was going to happen but Mother Nature blessed us with a few hours of dryness so we could get the game in.
Neither of the girls had ever been to Citi Field and this was actually Lily’s first Met game. Being that they were born into being Met fans, we really needed to fix that! To my friends from New England, allow me defend myself. I’m really not into sports but I can get consumed when it gets really exciting. (I swear, I thought I was going to DIE watching the last 2 outs of Johan Santana’s no hitter last week.) So I’ve finally figured out a good way to explain my baseball allegiances. I was raised Red Sox and I married Mets. (So, basically as long as the Yankees lose, the people I love are happy and that makes me happy!)
Aren’t they gorgeous?
We got lucky and found Mr. Met as soon as we walked in. He really is awesome. I mean, his head is a GIANT BASEBALL! It doesn’t get any better than that! No wonder he was named America’s Favorite Sports Mascot.
This has got to be the only time a parent lets a grown stranger hug their child.
About a minute after we explained about the apple that pops up when the Mets hit a home run, Lucas Duda hit one and we went crazy!
I loved Sophia’s reaction.
Of course, we ate our way through Citi Field. Lily did NOT like her first taste of Cracker Jacks (more for me!) but neither of the girls could refuse Carvel served in a hat.
Even though the Mets didn’t win, it was a visit to Citi Field that we won’t soon forget. If you’ve never been there, you really should check it out. It’s a beautiful stadium and Met-fan-or-not, I’m sure you’d love it.
Sue at Home
P.S. Yes, they are wearing winter boots in June. They don’t have rain boots because I feel like they end up wearing them once before they outgrow them. (Crazy mom alert: I was more annoyed that the pink didn’t match their orange and blue Mets ensembles than I was that they were wearing winter boots in June. Yes, I know I’m weird.)
